Adventurous tours by boat. River “Altmühl” is an ideal water for a leisurely canoe trip and paddling. It is actually the slowest flowing river in Bavaria. Following the river, which meanders down over 150 kilometres from Gunzenhausen to Kelheim, you can discover the beauty of the picturesque scenery of the holiday region in the very heart of Bavaria. Propelled by the sheer muscle power, you will paddle past steep limestone formations, willow trees with branches drooping down into the water and riverbanks covered with reeds. Guided boat trips are organised daily, weather permitting. At normal flow, you can make easily 5 kilometres per hour paddling down the river.
MoreStep on board! From May to October, you are welcome to discover the beautiful countryside of the “Altmühltal” Valley during a boat trip along the “Maine-Danube” Canal on board of a steamer. From Riedenburg, approx. 26 km away from Beilngries, the ships start in the direction of Kelheim. From there a trip through the Danube breakthrough to the Koster Weltenburg is offered as a day trip. Only about 15 minutes away from the Gams Hotel, you can immerse yourself in a Canadian ambience. In the near town of Dietfurt, you can find the Snow Wolf Valley Husky Ranch. The owners have made a long-cherished dream come true. Other than raising huskies, they offer unique experiences for visitors of all ages. You can, for example, join in on a walk at night in the company of huskies. After having become acquainted with the animals and received some information on the character of these dogs, you will get a few instructions regarding the gear. Afterwards, you can finally head off for the walk. The children can take the lead helped by an adult. The walk ends with a gathering around the campfire on the ranch. Special walking poles are available free of charge from the reception desk. The only thing you need to head off are solid walking boots or running shoes and comfortable sportswear.

The summer toboggan run in the “Altmühltal” Valley, which is open from March to September, provides year after year great fun. After having been tugged uphill in your bob, you can enjoy an exciting downhill ride. The toboggan run has a length of 100o metres, including a hairpin bend, several banked curves and numerous jumps. Being one of the most modern summer toboggan runs in the world, the track is completely safe. The users can determine themselves the speed of the bob.
MoreBathing fun is guaranteed in the Altmühltal Nature Park. In the middle of the Altmühltal Nature Park and thus in the heart of Bavaria the Kratzmühlsee is located. This beautiful lake invites you to bathe, swim, row and sunbathe. For non-swimmers the bathing zone proves to be a perfect area. Boats can also be rented. A children’s playground and idyllic soccer fields ensure fun for acitivity-seekers. The Altmühlsee combines leisure fun and nature conservation. There is plenty of space for swimming, surfing and sailing. Between the five docks the passenger ship “MS Altmühlsee” crosses the water in a scheduled service. Hikers and cyclists explore the bank on a lovely path.
